You want to crank out your A-game every day of the week. It's what you get paid to do. It's what you get out of bed to do. And it's what you got into this business to do.

But sometimes, the subconscious bullshit in the back of your brain creeps up on your parade and pisses all over it.

Without rhyme, reason or rationale explanation, the fear starts rising, the love starts waning, and the bulldozers in your head start colliding: pushing you this direction one minute, another direction the next, and demolishing your sense of self, purpose, and perspective in the process.

But as maddening, frustrating, and downright depressing as it is when you're at the top of your game, but feel like you're plateauing, drowning, or running round in circles, it's not because you're an imposter, it's not because you've hit your ceiling, and it's not because you need to wind your neck in and settle for what you have.

It's because you're subconsciously chained to the past.

The habits, beliefs, and rituals which got you the level of success you have today, are the exact same things which are preventing you from getting the level of success you crave next.

But because your brain HATES change, it'll stop at nothing to prevent change from happening.

Psychologists call this neurological-of-war between positive and negative growth a hypnotic loop, or a confirmation bias, and I call it a padlock on your potential.

If you're happy playing small or sliding into irrelevance, chaining yourself to old habits, tired strategies, and limiting belief systems is fine. But if you want to optimise your performance, minimise self-sabotage, and inspire the living daylights out of yourself, your peers, and the world at large, you need to jettison the junk. Pronto.

This is Subconscious Bullshit Elimination at work. And unlike conventional coaching (which works at a superficial behavioural level and treats external symptoms not root cause) we'll be working at a core identity level, which is the level at which ALL behaviour, emotion, and learning happens and stays stuck.

And working at the core is critical. Because if the goals, targets, and ambitions you set with your conscious brain, aren’t in alignment with the goals, targets, and ambitions of your subconscious brain, you can do all the box-ticking, belly-breathing, and hustling you like, but the door to your success will remain locked shut.

As your coach it's my job to give you the psychological bolt-cutters you need to  escape the past, design the future, and simplify the maze that's slowing you down or tripping you up.

So you won't see me shackled to one method of working, one school of thought, or one fixed mindset. My work is bespoke and human-centric. Which means that you are my brief, you are my inspiration, and it's your story which dictates the way we work together.

But that doesn't mean I'll buy into your story. Or the bullshit you tell yourself.

I won't. I'll call it how it is, challenge your preconceptions, and shake up your thinking. And I'll highlight the blindspots in your head that no one else can see, or would ever dare mention.

That's why my clients call me their springboard not their crutch, their truth-teller not their arse licker, their mentor not their mother.

Jan Elliot

Executive Creative Director, The & Partnership

"As a creative in the ad industry it's hard to find someone to talk to for impartial, motivating advice. Mainly that's because it's hard to find someone who has been through what you are going through. Matt has, and it makes him unique. He's done brilliant work in top agencies so inherently knows what kind of commitment that takes, how much brain space it takes up, and how it can be all encompassing. Creating a balance in your life when you work in a demanding environment can be hard. I can't thank Matt enough for his help, guidance and the focus he's given me."

Emma Prendergast

Global Senior Account Director, Havas London

"Working with Matt has changed everything; I have a whole new perspective on what I’m doing and how I want to do it. Matt arms you with the tools you already have, but have hidden away or forgotten. He is patient, persistent and knows exactly how to draw out and unlock the best in you. Matt’s secret weapon is making every session feel like a long candid conversation. He's ingenious at helping you find what you’re looking for; all the while making it feel like you’re telling him a story."

Ben Akers

Writer, Director, Campaigner & Founder of Made with +

"I blame Matt. For what? Well everything. I blame Matt for the fact that I’m a Director. I blame Matt for the fact that I created the film “Steve” and have been able to save other men from suicide. I blame Matt for the fact that I didn’t just talk about it, that I did it. Matt has been my big brother, my coach, my sounding board my conscious. I wouldn’t have been able to turn my grief from losing Steve, into being a male mental health campaigner without Matt. As I said I blame Matt. He's brilliant. So thank you Matt for being in my life and career."

So if you're committed to making positive change. Have the courage to step into uncertainty. And are ferociously curious about the life that lies beyond your bullshit, keep reading.

Because my coaching isn't for everyone.

Rules of Engagement

My style of coaching can cut deep, may strike nerves, and is at times, highly challenging. And because most of my work comes through referral and recommendation, I filer people with a bias towards action.

However, in honour of a brand new decade, I'm currently expanding my 2020 private coaching circle to include non-referred clients.

So, if you're one of the world's shit-kickers (not tyre-kickers), and you've reached a stage in your life where you know you've got so much more to give, but you're not sure how to go about getting it, please get in touch.

But before you do that...

  1. Please don't reach out to me unless you're REALLY committed to changing. I'm not your priest, your BFF, or a magician.
  2. Don't ask me for hourly rates equivalent to a high street therapist. You won't like the answer. And the answer's "No"
  3. Follow through on your post-session commitments. And don't lie to me if you don't.
  4. Take good advice when it's given. Especially if it stings.
  5. Show up to our sessions fully present and on schedule. Neither of us can get this time back.
  6. Don't flake out on a session with less than 48 hours notice. It's rude, it's unprofessional, and it violates point 1.
  7. Call bullshit on anything you disagree with. I don't like working with doormats.
  8. Don't bitch about anyone or anything unless you're wiling to take extreme ownership of your own crap first.
  9. Pay your invoices on time. I don't like chasing bad debts anymore than you do.
  10. And have fun. This is your future we're talking about, not your funeral.

Ways of Working

Assuming my rules of engagement haven't made you run a mile, it's important to know that if we work together you're not signing up for a series of overly short, nip-n-tuck 'life coaching' sessions that are dictated to you by a time-Nazi who watches the clock like a hawk and gives you the cold-shoulder between calls.

We're entering into a partnership here. And my side of the deal is to get you from your current state to your desired state as quickly and safely as psychologically possible. And your side of the deal is to show up fully present and to put in the work.

This means that every session we diarise will be two hours deep (not 50 minutes shallow), and in-between our weekly or bi-monthly head-to-heads I'll be available on email, WhatsApp, and FaceTime for any questions, queries, victories, or wobbles you might have.

I call this Constant Contact Coaching, and over the years I've found it to be the best way to keep your trajectory on the upswing and your head in the game – especially when facing the none stop challenges of being human in this day and age.

Because I coach worldwide, all of our sessions will take place on Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, or phone, and the cost of these sessions will depend on whether you're a private individual or a corporation, and whether you choose to engage in a one-off 2-hour Breakthrough Session, a recurring monthly membership, or an 8 hour, one day intensive.

So, with that in mind, the way that our partnership will be priced and diarised will depend on the targets you set yourself, the deadlines you're aiming for, and the skin you're willing to put in the game. And if the answer to the latter is less than 100%, I refer you back to point 1.

If I sound like I may be the kind of coach for you, drop me an email to arrange a chat, And if it's a 'hell yes' from both of us, we'll begin.
