Let's not beat around the bush, it's really bloody tough being a rock-solid creative leader these days – let alone a rockstar. The pressure to be brilliant is intense. The recovery periods are next to none existent. And the time to sit down and ‘get shit done’ has fallen off the face of the proverbial cliff.
In an effort to keep up, keep relevant, and keep our jobs, we push our brain to the limit, push our nervous system to red alert, and run ourselves ragged – with an immune system that's battered to buggery, and a mind that's blunted by fear.
But despite what the self-help brigade may tell you, and the mindfulness bores may say, following your breath, worshiping at the alter of yoga, or filling out a brightly coloured 'Wheel of Life' is NOT the way to crush it as a leader.
Subconscious Bullshit Elimination is.
TO CRUSH IT AT WORK WITHOUT WORK CRUSHING YOU, YOUR TEAMS OR YOUR MARRIAGE, YOU NEED TO PRESSURE-PROOF YOUR creative BRAIN AND TAKE AN AXE TO YOUR BULL.
Rocky may have gotten away with a brain like putty. But in a high-stake business like ours, where sharpness of thinking, depth of thought, and mental gymnastics are critical for longterm success and personal survival, driving your number one tool-of-the-trade into the ground is not a great idea.
But because we haven’t been taught how to pressure-proof our brain, take conscious control of our subconscious triggers, and turn challenge, opportunity and the weight of uncertainty into flow-and-excel, not fight-or-flight, our battle-weary minds have defaulted to Def-con 1, and the nagging little voice in the back of our head asks us, 'why we fucking bother...?'
For the past 18 months I’ve asked and interviewed hundreds of creative leaders across the world about their daily emotional states and the results are scary.
92% said they were stressed out and anxious. 68% said THEY ARE ANGRY and insecurE. 65% felt undervalued and disengaged. And 56% said they'd been burnt out– with 21% saying "Not yet!”
Those are worrying stats.
Not just because they make you feel shit, stuck in mental gridlock, and battered to an emotional pulp, but because they’re the result of a creative brain locked in fear-mode. Not flow mode.
And fear doesn’t just hijack your happiness, castrate your enthusiasm, and run a blade through your relationships. It destroys your sense of perspective, face-plants your self-confidence, and drops a H-Bomb on your personal and professional hopes, dreams and ambitions – dangerous territory when the stakes are high and the pressure to be brilliant is banging on your skull.
But despite the sleepless nights, migraine attacks and ever-present sense of pervading doom, we keep on telling ourselves that stress is our fuel, anxiety is our motivation, and one day all of this madness will pay off.
And both you and I know that's bullshit.
IN THE CUT-THROAT RACE FOR 'BIG IDEAS' AND ROCK-SOLID LEADERSHIP YOU CAN NO LONGER AFFORD TO LET FEAR RUN RIOT AND LEAVE FLOW TO CHANCE.
After years coaching some of the sharpest, smartest, creative leaders, CEO's, and performers in the world, and a decade training in the most advance psychological technologies there are, I can tell you one thing for sure – box-breathing and mindful-navel-gazing may chill you out a bit. Yoga and meditation may mask some of the stress you’re under. And traditional coaching may make you good at making pointless lists and colourful charts.
But because NONE of that stuff rewires the subconscious programming that's CAUSING you to feel shit and PREVENTING you from hacking into your A Game, they won’t make a jot of difference to your longterm pursuit for creative excellence, work/life balance, and a greater sense of all-round emotional awesomeness.
But IGNITING, AMPLIFYING and SUSTAINING professional-grade flow will.
Flow is the optimum state of human consciousness, and the secret to Sustainable High Performance. It's where you perform you're best, and feel your best. And best of all, when you eliminate the bullshit holding it back, you can spend your entire life in that state, not just the highlights in the bath.
And that's my goal for you.
To forge a flow-driven mindset where courage, confidence and curiosity is your baseline state, your hardwired trait, and your default mode under pressure. It's how you build a life you never want to escape from. Hit the targets you've set your heart on. And get the clarity, energy and resilience you need to burn bright without burning out – no matter how hot the kitchen gets.
So if you want change fast. You want change profound. And you want change that sticks like bricks when the pressure gets intense, you don't need a cheese-ball to coach you on your timekeeping. You don't need a hippie to teach you how to breath. And you don't need to look any further than this website.
I call myself a 'coach' but I'm NOT like other coaches. I don’t talk like them. I don't think like them. And I don't much like them -- OR the POP-PSYCH they peddle.
I'll be honest with you, the coaching industry is a joke.
It's an unregulated minefield populated by sharp-dressed cowboys, none comital 'rapport builders', and wannabe psychologists who don't have the time, energy or inclination to get some proper psychological qualifications under their belt. (Which is thin ice to be skating on when you're working with peoples brains and shaping their lives, no?)
